“The Hoshin Plan” is a Lean Tool that,
once developed, enables everyone to literally and figuratively
be “on the same page” with regard to a Value Stream
strategy and implementation plan. The Hoshin Plan is developed
by a Value Stream Team, with the Value Stream Leader, who is responsible
for the quality of the plan and the integrity of its implementation
in the Value Stream.
The Hoshin Plan consists of:
A Value Stream Vision
Value Stream Measures of Success
Value Stream Key Results Areas
Value Stream Key Results Measures
Value Stream Key Strategies
Value Stream Principles of Operation
Value Stream 90-Day Kaizens
- Understand the profound difference between managing “vertically”
(the traditional way most of us have learned and have been trying
to use) vs. managing “horizontally” (the Value Stream
way to manage)
- Look at some actual results being achieved by others using
Hoshin Plans
- Develop a Vision for each of your Value Streams
- Using the Vision as a “pull”, develop Key Results
Areas, Key Results Measures, and Key Strategies for each of your
Value Streams
- Create the initial 90-Day Kaizens appropriate for each Key
Strategy in your Value Streams
- Develop your own Principles of Operation for each of your Value
Streams
- Package all of the above in a Hoshin Plan document for each
of your Value Streams
