With 37 years of experience as Lean Enterprise consultant, Jim
transforms organizations into high performing, high commitment enterprises.
His approach to Lean is business driven, analytical, and systemic.
Jim works with leaders in organizations to define a business case
for change, with clear timelines and goals, as a necessary first
step in generating change. Using Lean Enterprise as the "backbone",
the technical system is then redesigned to achieve these goals.
Finally, the social system is reconfigured to enable superior performance.
This process has been successfully applied many times in manufacturing
production units, customer service centers, logistics and supply
organizations, fire & emergency services units, utilities (power
generation & distribution), waste management, testing &
quality services, large scale manufacturing sites, training &
education staffs, and with management & supervisory teams.
A sought after organization transformation professional, Jim is
known for his extraordinary work ethic, his concentration on the
client's opportunities, and his fast cycle, results driven process.
When there are tough situations, such as labor relations issues
or acute management leadership problems, he is often called in to
work on systemic solutions. Jim has written extensively and published
16 technical journals defining various elements of Performance by
Design, and written magazine and newspaper articles on the results
achieved. He hosted dozens of company benchmarking visits to high
performance organizations, including multiple company visits of
MIT's Leaders for Manufacturing, The Conference Board of Canada,
Work In America, and Cornell University's Global Human Resource
Strategies for Executives Program.
During the past three years, Jim has worked in a wide variety of
businesses using Lean tools and the Lean system to help them achieve
dramatic and lasting results, including large international companies
in the US Defense and Aerospace industry, the food industry, healthcare,
pharmaceuticals, paper, automobile components, as well as mid-sized
to small companies in electric motors, fragrances, plastics, electrical
components, printing industry, etc. He is also a 6-Sigma Green Belt
with 17 years experience, training hundreds of production operations
people in the 7 basic quality tools, in understanding variation,
and in achieving process control. Jim is trained in accelerated
learning and led a group of 10 full time training professionals
using this methodology to speed up the learning process (acquisition,
retention, recall, and application of knowledge/skills).
Jim is a Vietnam Veteran and is active in the local Veteran's Organizations:
Veterans Outreach Center and Veterans Network. He volunteered with
a 10-year commitment as a consultant to an elementary school in
the City of Rochester, NY, working with the principal, staff, and
parents to improve student performance. He is a 1976 graduate in
Mechanical-Industrial Engineering and a 1980 graduate with a Masters
in Business Administration (Accounting Major), both from Rochester
Institute of Technology. Jim is an active member of the American
Society for Quality, the Ottawa Manufacturers Network, and the Socio-Technical
Systems Roundtable. He is a past senior associate member of the
American Institute of Industrial Engineers. He has given a number
of presentations on Lean and 6-Sigma to various professional groups,
including ASQ both in Canada and in California.
