If your business is facing a technical challenge, the Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program, (SATOP), wants to help.  SATOP offers up to 40 hours of FREE engineering assistance for qualified requests, utilizing the vast resources of NASA and our Alliance Partners - corporations and research universities working in the U.S. Space Program.

Who can apply?

SATOP is available to any US-based small business or manufacturer (under 500 employees). 

What kind of requests can SATOP accept?

The project must appear solvable within 40 hours.  Please be prepared to provide drawings, prototypes, or samples as needed, and be available to communicate with the Alliance Partner (AP).  Requests should be clearly defined and focused on a specific project within one of the following engineering disciplines: Mechinical, Manufacturing, Environmental, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial, Electronics, Materials and Structural. SATOP cannot provide software, internet or information technology solutions.

How does it work?

You submit a qualified Request for Technical Assistance (RTA) by applying at SpaceTechSolutions.com. SATOP works to find an Alliance Partner (AP) engineer with the appropriate expertise to provide a solution.  If an AP is found, you can receive up to 40 hours of free technical assistance by phone, fax, or e-mail. Most RTA's will be resolved within 90 days. 

Submitting an RTA is as Easy as 1-2-3

1) Click on SpaceTechSolutions.com or SpaceTechSolutions.com/requestor/prequalify.asp 

2) Enter Pre-Registration Data -- After agreeing to the disclaimer, the following information will be required:

• Business license or Federal Employer Identification Number*
• An estimate of the time to implement the requested solution
• Impact SATOP assistance is estimated to have on business (revenue dollars, capital investment dollars, number of jobs created, etc.)

3) Enter Technical Description -- Describe the technical challenge:

• Summarized project title
• Description of technical challenge
• Actions you've taken to date
• Desired solution

4) A SATOP Project Engineer will contact you within five business days to discuss your application and how to proceed if the RTA is accepted.

 

*SATOP is mandated to provide technical assistance to small businesses, with the view of positively impacting economic development/growth.  Consequently we can only accept applications from established business entities.
