Two exceptional programs are available across New York State to help companies enter or expand in global markets. ExportNY and ExporTech™ are programs that assist participating companies in developing an international growth plan, provides experts who will vet their plans, and connects the companies with organizations like yours that will help them move quickly beyond planning to actual export sales.


ExportNYExport NY - Helping New York Businesses Achieve Global Success

CITEC is pleased to offer access to the highly successful ExportNY international business development program.

A collaboration between Syracuse University and Central New York TDO (CITEC's sister center serving the greater Syracuse region), ExportNY helps participating companies determine which international markets are attractive, prioritize efforts, develop strategies to penetrate each market and understand the legal, cultural, logistical and regulatory issues of doing business abroad.

The four month program takes a strategic approach to developing a global business plan and provides the knowledge and research support to do so. Participants spend two days per month in class sessions. Between sessions they work on developing and executing their plan. By the end of the program, businesses are on their way to expanding their markets.

ExportNY provides Syracuse University interns at no-cost to you to help with research and implementation efforts under the guidance of the participant and program staff.

The program gives companies a jump start in international business by providing classroom training, market research, tools and resources in a stimulating, interactive and supportive environment. ExportNY program staff and guest speakers from industry share their expertise on:

The ExporTech program is an export acceleration system for achieving profitable growth.

  • Have you received international inquiries, but haven’t fully capitalized on them?

ExporTech can drive international sales today. Companies across all industries that have gone through the ExporTech program report significant impacts to their bottom lines:

  • On average, participating companies have generated $770,000 in new export sales.
  • Many companies generate export sales within 3-6 months of completing the program, and some have negotiated sales before the program’s final session.
  • The program saves the average company over 120 hours of labor time by navigating them through the international growth process.

How does ExporTech work?

The ExporTech system provides the assistance companies need to develop a simple, actionable international growth plan - based on a series of carefully designed tools and templates.

We connect participants with a wide range of seasoned international business experts who help them navigate the export process. The program involves a unique combination of group work, individual work, and personal coaching that allows companies to extract information that is critical to their export success.

During group sessions, experts are selected based on the specific needs of the participants, to educate the entire group and provide one-on-one consultations.

In the final group session, each company’s plan will be reviewed and vetted by a panel of experienced international businesspeople, to help them avoid costly mistakes and see new opportunities.

Each company is assigned an experienced coach to provide focused, one-on-one support in the development and execution of their plans. And, each three-session program is limited to six to eight companies to ensure quality, personalized service and attention to each company.

Vetting Sales Agents / Distributors in Overseas Markets

The Export Marketing Assistance Service is a New York State program designed to help businesses find sales agents or distributors abroad. EMAS provides customized research conducted by our trade specialists at home and abroad. New York State’s foreign-based offices provide local intelligence for the markets you select and work diligently to identify the best possible parties to represent your company’s sales interests abroad.  The program is currently available in Canada, China, Mexico, Europe (United Kingdom), Israel and South Africa.

EMAS represents an important tool for New York State manufacturers of all sizes who aim to enter or expand their sales into foreign markets. By participating in EMAS, ESD will find the appropriate importers distributors and sales agents to best represent your business internationally.

U.S. Commercial Service

The U.S. Commercial Service is the trade promotion arm of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration. U.S. Commercial Service trade professionals in over 100 U.S. cities and in more than 75 countries help U.S. companies get started in exporting or increase sales to new global markets.

The U.S. Commercial Service offers trade counseling, market intelligence, business matchmaking, and commercial diplomacy to connect you with lucrative business opportunities. In addition, they help you to develop trade finance and insurance strategies that align with your particular business objectives and help you complete your export transaction.
