Lean 101:

Building a Culture of Continuous Improvement

At CITEC, one of our signature programs is Lean 101, a dynamic, four-hour introduction to Lean principles designed to help organizations eliminate waste and improve processes.

While Lean concepts can sometimes feel abstract, our approach is anything but.

Lean 101 focuses on practical, real-world application. Participants learn how to identify inefficiencies, streamline workflows, and create more value using the resources they already have.

Learn by Doing

We’ve delivered this training in public sessions and on-site at facilities across the North Country, reaching hundreds of individuals from dozens of companies. When we conduct Lean 101 at a company’s facility, the learning doesn’t stop in the classroom.

In fact, one of the most powerful parts of the experience happens on the shop floor. After covering the fundamentals, we head out for a “waste hunt.” Participants immediately apply what they’ve learned by identifying inefficiencies in their own processes, whether it’s excess motion, waiting time, overproduction, or other common forms of waste.

This hands-on approach turns theory into action. And action leads to results.

Rapid Improvements, Real ROI

These waste hunts often spark rapid improvement projects that generate immediate return on investment. Small adjustments like reorganizing a workspace, standardizing a process, or improving communication flow, can produce measurable gains in efficiency, productivity, and quality.

But the true impact of Lean 101 goes beyond a single improvement event.

Creating a Shared Mindset

When your entire team shares a common language and mindset around continuous improvement, the possibilities multiply. Employees begin to see opportunities for improvement everywhere. Collaboration strengthens. Problem-solving becomes proactive rather than reactive.

That’s when Lean becomes more than a training and it becomes part of your culture.
That's when you build a stronger operation, a more engaged team, and a healthier bottom line.

Lean 101 isn’t just about learning principles. It’s about creating momentum and sustaining it.
